Bobby Child (2 February)
Epsom-born Bobby Child is an invaluable committee member of Putney Music. Her love of music began during her days at Richmond County Grammar School for Girls and through her composer and oboist brother Nigel Treherne, whose appearance at Putney Music a few years ago was among the highlights of the season.
Before her retirement she worked as a legal secretary in a company’s private client department. She is scarcely less busy these days, not only as a supporter of the Academy of St Martin in the Fields and the National Youth Orchestra, but as leader of a new initiative to provide music sessions for disadvantaged children, in particular refuge and refugee children.
Bobby also works with the charity KidsOut alongside players from the Academy of St Martin in the Fields. Singing is a relished pastime: she sings in her church choir and organises Christmas carols evenings every year for different charities. When not involved with music, she is likely to be found in her beloved allotment.
