MacleodThomas Hull (6 October)

Thomas Hull began his musical training with the eminent author and professor of clarinet Pamela Weston.  He made his debut recital at the Wigmore Hall in 1982 before going on to study with Jack Brymer at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.  In 1987 he founded the City of London Chamber Orchestra with whom he performed many times both as soloist and conductor at festivals abroad and in the UK.  His foundation of the CLCO led to a greater involvement in the administration, promotion and management of music and musicians.  He organised music for occasions ranging from background entertainment to orchestrating and conducting a full stage musical, gala charity concerts and TV advertisements.

Alongside this, Thomas was a Director of the artist management company Ingpen & Williams for twenty-six years before taking up a Directorship at Maestro Arts Ltd in 2016, a position he still holds.

Since 2003 he has enjoyed a close relationship with the Chipping Campden International Music Festival in the Cotswold area of Gloucestershire, and in 2008 he was invited by the Festival to set up and conduct a Festival Academy Orchestra.  This ensemble now performs annually at the Festival, pairing musicians from the UK’s leading orchestras with students and recent graduates selected by audition from Britain’s conservatoires.  Alongside these concerts the Festival hosts recitals by some of the leading musicians of the day including Alfred Brendel, Richard Goode, Emanuel Ax, Nicolas Benedetti, Paul Lewis, Alina Ibragimova, Cédric Tibergien, Dame Imogen Cooper, Steven Isserlis, Steven Osborne and the Takács Quartet.

What little time remains for hobbies, Thomas enjoys photography and playing ugly golf on some of Scotland’s most beautiful links.

He will be interviewed by Putney Music’s joint Programme Secretary Peter Avis.
