David Pickard (3 February)

PickardDavid Pickard read music at Corpus Christi College, Cambridge, before starting his career as Company Manager at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, a post he held for five years from 1982. Since then, positions he has held have included Chief Executive of the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, Director of Kent Opera and General Director of Glyndebourne Festival Opera where he developed an extensive digital programme which included big screen cinema relays, and broadened the company’s audience base through special-priced tickets for the young.

Since November 2015 he has been Director of the BBC proms (which he first encountered as an avid promenader at the age of 16), and this evening promises to be one of anecdote and insight into the running of the world’s largest classical music festival.
